Cumberland
County Playhouse - This fine regional performing arts
center is one of the most active in rural America. It offers professionally
produced musicals, plays, and concerts in three theaters on a lakeside
site from February thru mid-December. Famous productions include-Hello
Dolly, Oklahoma, Man of LaMancha, Grapes of Wrath-mix with Cumberlands
culture-Smoke on the Mountain, A Homestead Album, Quilters and much more. Visitors often have a choice of several productions.
Also the shady grounds around the Playhouse invite picnics, and the
Theater-in-the-Woods is a magical setting for occasional summer evening

Pond Mennonite Settlement - Located in Hanging Limb, the Muddy
Pond Mennonite Settlement has a variety of family-owned businesses
offering baked goods, molasses, and leather productions. While at
Muddy Pond you can visit the Muddy Pond General Store, with quilts,
crafts, natural food and a deli, Bauman's Harness & Leather Shops,
the Muddy Pond Sorghum Mill & Store, where you can watch them
make molasses, and Bachen Haus Bakery, offering delicious breads,

Cordell
Hull Birthplace & Museum State Park -
Historical site owned by the State of Tennessee, consisting of Cordell
Hull's original log cabin birthplace, and an exhibition building housing
documents and artifacts, including the Nobel Peace Prize for Peace
Medal. Hull's will provided for the placing of artifacts and books
from his private apartment in a museum which was opened in Pickett

Sergeant Alvin C. York Gristmill Birthplace Museum - The
Alvin C. York Sate Historic Area at Pall Mall is a memorial to the
Most Decorated World War I soldier. York's rise to fame resulted from
his legendary firefight against the German Army in the Argonne Forest
of France. Sgt. York was rewarded with more than 40 Allied decorations
including the Congressional Medal of Honor. You can visit the family
home and farm, the rock ledge where he married, the church he helped
to build, as well as the post office/general store which he operated
for years. The historic area lies beside the Wolf River and includes
a picturesque Grist Mill, which York operated in the 40's. The park
includes a picnic pavilion and playground equipment. His burial site
is at the Wolf River Cemetery and only a short, yet beautiful drive

The
Borderlands Foundation Museum - Located at Byrdstown Town Hall, just
a few miles from Dale Hollow Lake. The Borderlands Exhibit is an interpretive
exhibit detailing the people, events and places of local interest
that occurred during the era of the American Civil War; a story of
their families and descendants through the reconstruction of the union.
On display are various artifacts of local interest on loan, along
with photos and copies of letters, various maps and reference books.

Historic
Rugby -
Time stands still at tiny Historic Rugby, the restored Victorian village
founded in 1880 by British author and social reformer Thomas Hughes.
At its peak, some 350 people lived in the colony. More than 60 buildings
of Victorian design graced the townscape. When visiting Historic Rugby
you will see the surviving 20 original buildings still standing at
the southern edge of the Big South Fork Park, unspoiled by modern
development. Schoolhouse Visitor Centre exhibits and video trace a
century of Rugby's British and Appalachian heritage. Daily guided
tours take visitors into the 1882 Thomas Hughes Library, its original
7,000-volume collection still on the shelves, 1887 Christ Church Episcopal,
where visitors are always welcome at Sunday morning service. Also
you may visit the founder's Gothic Revival cottage, filled with furnishings
made by the early colonists, Rugby Commissary, which is full of traditional
crafts, Harrow Road Cafe, Newbury House B & B, and Pioneer Cottage.

The Travisville Affair - Located on Hwy. 200, 1.5 miles off Hwy.
127, 10 miles from Byrdstown. In the first military action in Tennessee
during the Civil War, Union troops of the 12th Kentucky Calvary and
the Home Guards of Houstonville Calvary, attacked a Confederate encampment
at Travisville on September 29, 1861. The 100 Confederate troops refused
to surrender. After being fired upon and losing four men, the Confederate

Vann's
Branch United Baptist Church - In 1849 Vann's Branch United
Baptist Church was originally located in the Vann's Branch Community.
The congregation was noted for their singing. Baptismal services were
conducted in the nearby Wolf River. In the early 1940's the US Army
Corp of Engineers built the Dale Hollow Dam and forming Dale Hollow
Lake, forcing people of Vann's Branch Community to relocate. The congregation
elected to dismantle the building and move to the Amonett Cemetery
on Cordell Hull Memorial Drive. For many years the church has been
void of any worship services. It is now available for church services
and funerals.

water and electrical hookups available, 3 shower/bathhouses, 2 separate

$2.00 to launch boat, $3.00 per carload to visit Day Area, $25.00

Pickett
State Park - Offering 11,752 acres of botanical, scenic
and geological wonders found nowhere else on Tennessee, 5 chalets,
5 rustic stone cottages, 5 wooden cottages, 40 campsites available,
with table and grill, 31 with water and electrical hookup, modern
bathhouse, group camp offered, can accommodate up to 144 persons,
more than 58 miles of hiking, as well as recreation activities, including
a beautiful, cliff-lined sandy beach which is one of the most beautiful
and picturesque in the south, year round fishing in Arch Lake, as
well as hunting. Pickett State Park also offers a naturalist during
the summer months, conducting guided tours, demonstrations, campfire

Big
South Fork National River & Recreation Area - Offering
hiking, with over 150 miles of hiking trail, with hikes ranging from
1 mile to 50 miles, which can be hiked daily or backpacked. Canoeing/
Rafting/ Kayaking, Class III and above rapids. Hunting/Fishing, State
and Federal rules and regulations apply Park is in 2 different states.
Horseback Riding, 180 miles of blazed horse trails, stables located
at Bandy Creek and Charit Creek Lodge. Mountain Biking, permitted
on all roads, horse trails and specially designated bike trails, except
hiking trails. Horses have right-of-way. Scenic Railway, ride into
Blue Heron/Mine 18 Historic Area via the Big South Fork Railway (800)
462-5664. Camping, allowed in most areas, Blue Heron is first come,
first serve basis, Bandy Creek and group reservations required (800)
365-2267. Camping fees range from $5.00-$20.00. Weather, located in
humid climate region, typified by mild winters, and moist warm to
hot summers. Snowfall occurs intermittently in the area and averages

Cave National Park - Located in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, north of Dale Hollow
Lake. Mammoth Cave National Park offers cave tours with guides, where
you can view the wonders of the longest surveyed cave in the world.
Mammoth Cave National Park also offers many other activities including
horseback riding, hiking, fishing, boating, canoeing, and much more.

Brimstone
Recreation Area - The
southern part of the area is the new addition to the Royal Blue WMA and is managed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and with
proper TWRA permits allows hunting, fishing and recreational ATV use.
